How much exercise does a Boerboel need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Boerboel enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adults need about 60 minutes a day of walking, patrolling the garden and play, plus some mental work. Boerboels are not marathon runners, but they enjoy brisk walks, short sprints, tug with clear rules and scent tasks. Many take to weight pulling or carting once fully grown and properly trained.
Choose walking routes and times with care, since surprise meetings with loose dogs can be tense. A Boerboel that gets too little activity tends to fence-fight, guard the house more intensely and chew. Over-exertion shows as heavy panting, lagging or stiffness the next day, and big, muscular dogs overheat quickly, so walk early or late in summer.
