The fastest growth happens in the first five months, and most puppies reach adult height by 9 or 10 months. Final weight and the full adult coat arrive around 12 to 15 months. Many go through an awkward stage near 6 months, when the fluffy baby coat thins out and the dog looks leggy and patchy for a while.
Kneecap luxation is the growth issue most often mentioned in the breed. Keep puppies lean, discourage repeated jumps off high furniture and put non-slip rugs on smooth floors. If you notice your puppy skipping, holding up a back leg for a few steps or kicking a leg out to the side, mention it to your vet, and book a visit sooner if it happens often.
