Kuvasz grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Kuvasz: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The white coat is surprisingly practical because mud usually dries and falls or brushes out within a day. Brush once a week with a slicker brush and undercoat rake, and daily during the heavy shed, which is usually most dramatic in spring when the winter undercoat comes out in handfuls. Bathe only a few times a year to protect the coat's natural oils.
Do not shave the coat, as it protects against both heat and cold and shields the pale-coated dog from sun. Trim nails every three to four weeks, check ears weekly and keep the hair between the pads tidy. Handling paws, ears and mouth from puppyhood makes grooming a 50 kg adult far easier.
