Training a Maltipoo: what works and what to expect
How the Maltipoo learns, common training challenges and what motivates it.
Maltipoos are intelligent and eager to please, and they respond well to positive reinforcement. Short sessions with treats and praise work best. They often enjoy learning tricks and can do well in obedience or agility.
House training can take time due to small bladders, so take puppies out every hour or two and reward success lavishly. The most valuable lesson, though, is coping alone. Start with 30 seconds behind a closed door in the first week, then build slowly to 5, 15 and 60 minutes over the following months, always returning before the puppy starts crying. Pair each absence with a stuffed chew toy so being alone predicts something pleasant.
