Training a Tibetan Spaniel: what works and what to expect
How the Tibetan Spaniel learns, common training challenges and what motivates it.
Tibbies are bright but independent. They learn quickly when they see a reason and lose interest if asked to repeat the same exercise many times. Short sessions, varied tasks and food or play rewards work well. Pushy methods usually make them dig in their heels.
Recall is the weak spot. A Tibbie that spots something interesting may simply decide to finish investigating first. Practice recall with high-value rewards in a fenced area, and keep your dog on a lead or long line near roads. Because they like to watch from windows, you may also need to reward quiet to stop a habit of barking at every passer-by.
