How much exercise does a Norwegian Elkhound need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Norwegian Elkhound enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adults need about 60 to 90 minutes of exercise every day, and many enjoy more. Elkhounds love hiking, jogging in cool weather, scent work, tracking and even skijoring or pulling sports. Long walks on varied terrain suit them better than repetitive laps of a park.
Because of their prey drive, keep an Elkhound on lead or a long line near wildlife, roads and livestock. They are built for cold and can overheat in summer, so exercise at cooler times of day and provide shade and water. An under-exercised Elkhound tends to bark more, dig and escape, so boredom quickly becomes noise.
