A practical grooming routine for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Expect hair. The Pembroke's thick double coat sheds steadily all year and then drops its undercoat in bigger waves, usually in spring and autumn. Brushing two or three times a week with a slicker brush and an undercoat rake keeps the house manageable; during a heavy shed, daily 10 minute sessions save you hours with the vacuum.
Baths every six to eight weeks are enough, and a thorough blow dry helps loosen dead undercoat. Never shave the coat, as it insulates against both heat and cold and may grow back patchy. Trim nails every three to four weeks, check the upright ears weekly for wax and debris, and keep an eye on the fluffy feathering around the rear, which collects dirt.
