Pumi grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Pumi: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The Pumi coat is easier than it looks, but it has rules. Comb it through every 3 to 4 weeks with a wide-toothed metal comb, then wet it down and let it air dry so the corkscrews reform. Brushing it out completely creates a fluffy look that is wrong for the breed and tangles more easily.
Most pet Pumik have a scissor trim every 6 to 8 weeks to keep the outline neat and the eyes clear. Shedding is low, though some loose hair collects in the curls. Check between the toes and under the ears for mats, trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks, and keep the ears clean and dry, especially after swimming.
