Training a Tibetan Terrier: what works and what to expect

How the Tibetan Terrier learns, common training challenges and what motivates it.

Tibetan Terriers are intelligent and sensitive, and they learn best through calm, reward-based training. They have an independent streak inherited from generations of working alongside, rather than directly under, their herders, so persuasion works better than insistence.

Socialization is especially important because of their natural wariness with strangers. Expose puppies to many calm new people, places and sounds, and let them approach at their own pace. Recall and a settled 'wait' at doors are good early priorities, as some Tibetans are opportunistic escape artists.
