Standard Schnauzers grow steadily, reaching adult height at around 10 to 12 months. Males typically weigh about 7 to 10 kg at 4 months and 13 to 16 kg at 6 months, and they keep filling out through the chest until 18 months to 2 years. Puppy coats are softer and fluffier than the adult wire, which comes through gradually.
Growth problems are uncommon, but keep puppies lean and limit repetitive jumping. This is the time to build grooming habits: standing on a table, having the beard combed, feet handled and the coat plucked a little at a time. A puppy that accepts these calmly will be far easier to groom for the next 14 years.
