Puppies grow quickly, are close to adult height by 7 to 8 months and fill out until about 12 months. A typical puppy weighs 3 to 4 kg at 12 weeks. The fluffy puppy coat is usually stripped for the first time at around 5 to 6 months so the harsh adult wire can come through properly.
The bigger growth challenge is behavioral. Between 5 and 12 months the terrier nature arrives in full: digging, chasing, testing boundaries and ignoring recall. Keep going with classes, arrange calm meetings with friendly adult dogs and a wide range of people, and use a long line in open spaces. Physically, skip long runs on hard ground until growth is complete at about a year.
