Field Spaniels grow steadily and reach adult height at around 12 months, with males weighing roughly 12 to 15 kg at 6 months. They continue to fill out and grow their full feathering until 18 months to 2 years, and heads often keep broadening a little after that.
As a moderately heavy-boned breed with a known risk of hip dysplasia, puppies do best kept lean with controlled exercise: short walks, free play on soft ground and no long runs until at least 12 months. Some adolescents go through a worried phase around 6 to 10 months, suddenly unsure of things they accepted before. Keep outings positive and never force a nervous youngster forward.
