Keeshond feeding guide: how much and how often

Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Keeshond.

Most adult Keeshonden need around 190 to 250 g of a good dry food a day, roughly 2 to 2.5 cups, depending on size and activity, split into two meals. They are efficient eaters and gain weight easily, especially after neutering, so trim portions by about 10 percent if you notice a softer outline.

The dense coat makes extra weight easy to miss. Press gently through the ruff and along the ribs: you should feel each rib without digging. Fresh water matters in summer, because Keeshonden warm up quickly under all that fur, and a wide bowl that keeps chin hair from trailing in the water helps keep the ruff clean and dry.
