A practical grooming routine for the White Swiss Shepherd: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Brush two or three times a week with an undercoat rake and a slicker brush, and daily during the spring and autumn molts, when the undercoat falls out in tufts. Long-haired dogs need extra attention behind the ears and on the back legs. A good vacuum cleaner is essential; white hair shows up on dark clothes and floors instantly.
Mud looks dramatic on a white dog but usually brushes out easily once dry, so frequent baths are unnecessary. Bathe every two to three months with a gentle dog shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Trim nails every three to four weeks, check ears weekly, and wipe any tear staining with a damp cloth.
