Training a Pharaoh Hound: what works and what to expect

Pharaoh Hounds are quick learners with an independent streak, and repetition bores them fast. Keep sessions short, playful and rewarding, with food or toys they really want. They respond poorly to harsh methods and simply switch off under pressure.

Start recall training early and never stop, but accept that even a well-trained hound may not come back when prey is in sight. Early socialization with cats and small pets helps indoors, though it does not guarantee safety outside. Many owners also teach a calm settle on a mat, because young hounds can be very bouncy around the house.
